Join us for Invitation to Dance, an afternoon brass band concert celebrating the rhythms, colors, and irresistible energy of dance through the centuries. From the elegant French court dances of Peter Graham’s Rameau Revisited to the passionate Latin rhythms of Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, the program explores the many ways music invites us to move. John Philip Sousa’s The Gliding Girl brings a touch of vintage charm, while Caesar Giovannini’s Overture in B-flat, conducted by Herman Bratcher, showcases the brilliance and versatility of the brass band. The lively swing of James L. Hosay’s Swinging Yanks and the unmistakable groove of Quincy Jones’s Soul Bossa Nova add a playful, toe-tapping spirit, before Howard Hanson’s Prelude to Act II and Maypole Dances from Merry Mount brings the concert to a colorful, celebratory close. With music spanning classical elegance, tango passion, jazz sophistication, and exuberant dance rhythms, Invitation to Dance promises a delightful afternoon of music that will lift the spirits and set the toes tapping.
